Alisha Callins, née Tolbert, is the second of three children of Reverend Otis & Minister Dorothy
Tolbert. Alisha was educated in the Birmingham City Schools system.Alisha graduated with a
Bachelor of Arts degree in English in 2007. After that, she earned her Master of Science degree
in Leadership from Belhaven University in Jackson, MS., and is pursuing a Ph.D. in Higher
Education Administration from Liberty University in Lynchburg, VA. Alisha worked in the
Birmingham City Schools system from 2007-2016 as a Secondary English Language Arts
Teacher. In 2016, she and her husband founded the nonprofit, The Renaissance Systems, Inc.,
which provides supportive services in education, agriculture, financial assistance and literacy,
healthcare, and youth sports development in parts of Jefferson and Shelby counties. Additionally,
under the umbrella of The Renaissance Systems, Inc., Alisha, and her husband founded Southern
Christian Preparatory Academy, a private Christian school for gifted learners in grades 9 th – 12 th ,
and the newly formed 4-year online liberal arts institution of higher learning, Southern Christian
College.
Alisha is happily married to her best friend and biggest cheerleader, Jay Callins, and is the
mother of two beautiful and talented children, Jordan, and Jaylee. Alisha is a member of several
professional organizations, including the Shelby County Chamber of Commerce and the
Women’s Business Council of Shelby County. She is a proud member of the first and finest
sorority of the Divine Nine family, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.
