Description
Dr. Gertrudis A. (Trudy) Hunter has served the military, families, and surrounding
communities all around the country for 25 years. In 2011, she became the first Puerto-Rican ever
to graduate from an HBCU as well as the first Hispanic valedictorian from Miles College with a
Bachelor of Social Work Degree. She was named the Daniel Foundation Endowed Scholar of
Social Work in Alabama for 2011 and went on to continue her education in the Advance-
Standing MSW Program School of Social Work at the University of Alabama-Tuscaloosa. Dr.
Hunter graduated Summa Cum Laude with her Master of Social Work degree in May 2012. She
was the 2015-2106 recipient of the Birmingham Bar Association Memorial Scholarship, and
2012-2013 recipient of the Birmingham School of Law Minority Scholarship. Dr. Hunter was
conferred in May of 2016 with her Juris Doctor (JD), in December of 2021 with her Doctor of
Philosophy (PhD) in Public Policy and Public Administration with a law specialization and in
June of 2022 she was conferred with her Doctor of Theology (ThD) from St. Leo University.
Dr. Hunter is the Founder/Executive Director of Agape Social Service Ministry. She
serves as Vice-Chairperson on the Board of Directors for 2 nd Chance Lifesavers, on the Board of
Directors for My Shared Faith. She also serves as an Advisory board member for A Moment of
Magic Foundation and serves on the leadership council for Faith-In-Action Alabama. Dr. Hunter
works as a macro social worker consultant in the community who works to promote economic
and social well-being for individuals, families, neighborhoods, and communities. Dr. Gertrudis
A. Hunter has been married to Daniel for 20 years and they have 6 children and 11
grandchildren.
