Chellie Deion Dew is a 20-year-old first-generation college student and a rising senior from Birmingham, Alabama, majoring in early childhood education. As a first-generation college student in her family, she stands as a milestone representing her journey and the dreams and sacrifices of those who came before her. Her story is one of perseverance as she navigates the challenges of life while being in the system with parents battling addiction. Rather than allowing her circumstances to define her, she has chosen to rise above adversity and use her experiences as a source of strength. She wears the title of a resilient young woman with honor, knowing that her past does not limit her future. She is also involved in various extracurriculars and holds several other leadership roles, such as Freshman Class President (2022-2023), Pre-Alumni Council Queen (2022-2023), Sophomore Class Queen (2023-2024), UNCF Queen (2023-2024), Campus Activity Board Marketing Executive (2024-present), Miss Education (2024-present). After graduation, Chellie plans to be a kindergarten teacher. While furthering her education, she will pursue a Master’s degree in Child Development. Furthermore, Ms. Dew will accomplish her everlasting vision of opening up her own 24-hour daycare center for non-profits and first responders. As a foundation of her everyday life, Chellie stands on her philosophy that "The smallest act of kindness is worth more than the grandest intention." She desires to not only increase morale on the campus of Miles College, but also leave a firm foundation of student engagement where future young adolescents may spread pride and gratitude amongst themselves and other establishments.
